How do you protect my data?

Your privacy matters to us. This page answers common questions about how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

Matter and Space uses the data we collect to build a truly personalized experience that supports your wellness and enables you to achieve your educational goals. We take our responsibility to safeguard your data seriously and believe that you should be the ultimate decision-maker when it comes to your personal information.

How do you keep my data secure?

We use multiple layers of protection:

  • Encryption: Your data is encrypted when stored and when transmitted
  • Access controls: Strict limits on who can access data
  • Monitoring: We continuously monitor for security threats
  • Separation: Sensitive data is kept separate from analytics data

Is my data encrypted?

Yes. All your data is encrypted:

  • At rest: Data stored in our systems is encrypted
  • In transit: Data moving between your device and our servers is encrypted
  • Keys protected: Encryption keys are secured and regularly rotated

Has your security been audited?

Yes. Our security practices are assessed against NIST SP 800-171 standards, which are used by government agencies and educational institutions. We also:

  • Run continuous automated security scans
  • Conduct annual penetration testing
  • Work with SNHU's security team on assessments

Who sees my data?

Members of the product and research team will review your data in de-identified form. Data from this pilot helps us identify trends, usability issues, and opportunities to improve the user experience. All data is stored securely, and only authorized team members will have access to it in its de-identified form.

In rare cases required by law, safety, or university policy, identifiable data may be accessed only through a strictly controlled authorization process.

While Matter and Space removes personally identifiable information wherever possible, participants should be aware that in a limited pilot group, the content of reflections or conversations, even without your name attached, may be recognizable to others reviewing aggregated findings. We encourage participants to keep this in mind when deciding what to share. You are never required to share personal or sensitive information in reflections.

For details on what is shared outside of the Matter and Space team, please review the What data is shared with SNHU? article.
